The Scotch Curriculum is based on the Western Australian Curriculum Framework. The details and continuums of outcomes, which suggest a student's progress in each learning area contained in the Curriculum Framework Guidelines and Progress maps. This curriculum structure enables us to closely track and monitor individuals' progress on the continuums.
Scotch College is an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (Yrs 1-5) school and Middle Years Programme (Yrs 6-10). Details of these programmes can be found in the IBO Parent Guide.

There are specialist teachers in the areas of Art, Music, Physical Education, Languages other than English, Design & Technology and Drama.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
The Junior School is well equipped with the latest ICT. The Upper Primary Building contains computer pods and a computer laboratory along with a range of ICT facilities, including SMART Boards. Year 3 and 4 have access to a pod of computers and Year 1 and 2 have access to computers in their classroom. All Junior School classes have access to a second laboratory adjacent to our Music Centre.
Music
In addition to Class Music and the Junior School Choir, an opportunity exists for every boy to be involved in learning a musical instrument. It is expected that every boy in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will participate in this fully inclusive activity.
Boys in Year 2, 3 and 4 have a choice to learn violin, flute or piano keyboard, free of charge, as part of the School's music programme.
In Year 5, boys are encouraged to continue on the instrument that they were learning in Year 4 although some boys will be allowed to change instruments. Such changes are subject to discussion with the Music Department. Boys new to Scotch College in Year 5 may select from the wider range of musical instruments as outlined in the Music Handbook 2008. It is expected that every boy in Year 5 will be enrolled to learn a musical instrument. Group learning and free tuition are features of the Years 2 to 5 instrumental music programme.
Ensemble music making is an essential part of music in the Junior School. All boys learning an instrument will be encouraged to play in the various formal ensembles and smaller chamber music groups. Public performance opportunities are provided throughout the year at assemblies, concerts and other special events. The Junior School Choir is compulsory for Years 3, 4 and 5. These Choirs rehearses before school.
Physical Education (PE)
Boys are taught the basics of all sports offered in PE classes and at the beginning of the year are instructed especially in swimming and water safety.
Religious Education
Religious Education in the Junior School is based upon the 'Religious and Values Education Programme'. Classes are conducted by teachers and the Chaplain.
Camps and Outdoor Education
Boys in Years 5, 6 and 7 are involved in a range of Camps and Outdoor Education Activities during the year. In Year 5 the camp is linked to the PYP Units of Inquiry. In Years 6 and 7 Camps and Outdoor Activities aim to introduce boys to a wide range of activities, including base camps, bush walking, sailing, surfing and orienteering.
Excursions
Class Teachers arrange suitable educational excursions from time to time. Parents will be notified of the arrangements by letter and will be required to notify agreement with arrangements.
Sport
In the Summer and Winter seasons boys in Years 5 to 7 are required to choose the sport they want to play from the following:
Summer: Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Modcrosse (Modified Lacrosse) and Flipper Ball (Modified Water
Polo)
Winter: Football, Hockey, Soccer and Rugby
The boys also participate in Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming.
Summer and winter sports are played from 1.30pm to 3.00pm on Thursdays and practices on Tuesdays are from 7.45am to 8.20am.
