ORGANISATION OF THE SCHOOL

Scotch College now consists of a Senior School, a Middle School and a Junior School, all of which are situated in Shenton Road, Swanbourne. The Junior School comprises Years 1 to 5 and Middle School Years 6 and 7. All these classes are held in the School buildings on the north side of Shenton Road. The Senior School currently comprises Years 8 to 12. Nearly all Senior School classes are held in the buildings on the south side of Shenton Road.

Whilst, for the most part, the Junior and Middle School staff teach only on their side of Shenton Road, some teachers of Music, Computing, Physical Education and French, work in both parts of the School. The Headmaster, Chaplain and Psychologists have concern for boys in both the Senior and Junior Schools.

In the Junior and Middle School the class teacher is the one most immediately concerned with the welfare of the boy. In the Senior School, boys are placed in Houses which provide the basis of the system for pastoral care.

Parent Contact with Staff

Because boys change classes each year, it is more appropriate in the Senior School that the ongoing care and supervision of boys should be done through Houses. Parents who wish to discuss their son's academic, pastoral or co-curricular progress, should contact the House Head in the first instance. Parents are welcome to discuss boys' progress with any of their class teachers.

In the Junior School and Middle School, the unit for pastoral care is the class. Parents should direct initial inquiries to the class teacher. On occasions it may be appropriate to contact directly the Head of the Junior or Middle School, a member of the support teams or the Chaplain.

Daily Routine

The Senior School day begins at 8.35am. There are 4 class periods before lunch on each day. At the start of the day on Monday to Thursday, there is a tutor period and 20 minute Chapel Service or House period as follows:

  • Monday - House period
Tuesday - Chapel for Alexander, Anderson, Cameron and Ferguson
Wednesday - Chapel for Brisbane, Keys and Ross
Thursday - Chapel for St Andrews, Shearer and Stuart

On Fridays, the School day begins with marching, when boys march into the Dickinson Centre by Houses accompanied by the College Pipe Band. Parents and friends are invited to watch this parade of Houses.

On Fridays, boys who have earned Academic ties, Honours ties or Colours ties may wear these instead of House ties.

In the afternoons there are two class periods finishing at 3.25pm. (3.05pm Friday). There is a two-week timetable (Timetable A and Timetable B).

Sport Practices are normally held after school from 3.45pm until 5.10pm (see Games). Some First team practices might be extended beyond this time and some teams train before school.
