RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Academic Excellence
One way in which academic performance is recognised is by awarding Certificates of Excellence each semester to boys who meet defined criteria. Boys who gain five such certificates (including at least two in Year 11 or 12) are eligible for an Academic Tie. If a boy enters school in Year 11, he must gain at least three Academic Certificates in Year 11 and 12 to be eligible for an Academic Tie.
Year 8, 9 & 10: Boys in Years 8 & 9 who have achieved a high level of understanding for at least five of the eight learning areas will be awarded a Certificate of Excellence at the end of the Semester. Approximately 10% of the boys are awarded a Certificate of Excellence.
Years 11 & 12: An A grade or its equivalent in a Course of Study in at least five TEE subjects.
Commendation Forms
To assist the development of boys' self-esteem, Commendation Forms are used by staff to indicate to the House Head and the Headmaster when a boy deserves commendation for meritorious performance. These certificates are presented to the boy by the Headmaster.
