Year 11 Parent Information Evening

On Wednesday night in the Dickinson Centre, the Scotch Community was invited to attend Inspirations, a Year 1 - 12 Arts Exhibition. It was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all!

The exhibition will remain open for a week. If you could not attend the Opening but do not want to miss the opportunity to see boys' artwork en masse.

What impressed me was the diversity as well as the connections between the works from boys as young as six and as old as seventeen. Year 2 boys have wonderful wildflower observation drawings/tonal paintings sitting beautifully alongside Year 10 black and white lino prints of wildflowers. There were life size wooden models of skeletons created by seven year old boys, sitting alongside magnificent paintings and sculptures of skeleton forms produced by Senior School boys.

To view a snapshot of works created by boys in the Arts area of learning gives us insight into how the boys themselves view the world. It is an exciting and quite a humbling experience and I would encourage everyone to try and see the exhibition before it is dismantled. Please be aware that there may be examinations running concurrently in the DC throughout the week and we need to be mindful of this.

It is lovely for me to see past Junior School boys' artwork continuing to develop in the Middle and Upper School. I also think it is a great opportunity for boys and parents to appreciate other boys' talents and interpretations. The overall artwork was varied and impressive; reflecting knowledge, skills and imagination. It is a thrill to see your artwork mounted or displayed in an exhibition and it takes it to a new level. It is exciting for the boys to receive positive feedback about their work.

Finally, it is important to acknowledge the importance of having an audience for your artwork, to be able to receive feedback. Thank you to all the parents, friends and family members who provided this support for the boys. Thank you also to all the staff members who came and supported this Arts event or who may take the time to go with their classes and view the exhibition over the week.

A special thank you to a wonderfully supportive, hard working group of parent helpers; who have been behind the scenes helping me to sort, frame, label and put together the artwork for the Junior School contribution to this whole School initiative - Mieke Cranfield, Emma Plummer and Lesley Millar.
