Boys are introduced to the principles of the curriculum, information literacy and research skills, homework guidelines, and subject specific skills.
Boys in Year 8 undertake studies from each of the eight learning areas of the Middle Years Programme. This programme focuses on the education of the whole person, in preparation for a life of active, responsible citizenship.
Boys undertake a four week programme of transition to the secondary learning environment.
Following the introductory programme, they attend a five day Rottnest experience with their House Heads and other teachers. The Rottnest programme combines curricular and pastoral activities as part of the transition programme to their secondary education learning.
Year 8 boys will experience a 'taster' course in the Arts with a short course in each of Music, Visual Arts (2D and 3D) and Drama. Similarly their Technology course includes short courses in Being Creative with Materials in Wood and Metals, Graphic Modelling and Design and Understanding Technology.
Boys entering Year 8 who have had prior learning in either Indonesian or French will continue with that subject for the following three years. Boys with no prior experience in either of these languages will have the choice of French or Indonesian at an introductory level. Year 8 Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education is considered the ninth area of learning. Boys will attend a week long programme at 'Moray', the Scotch College Outdoor Education site in Dwellingup. Over this period, they will undertake a cross-curricular programme of Mathematics, Art, History, Geography, Cultural Studies and Outdoor Education skills and strategies.
