Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education is considered the ninth area of learning at Scotch College. Boys in Years 5 to 10 participate in a compulsory Outdoor Education programme. The School has its own Outdoor Education Centre, Moray - situated on the banks of the Murray River, four kilometres south of Dwellingup.

Boys in Years 5 to 9 visit Moray as part of their Outdoor Education curriculum. This programme develops and tests initiative, leadership and self-reliance through:

  • bushcraft

  • cooking

  • navigation

  • bushwalking

  • canoeing

  • kayaking

  • rock-climbing

  • surfing

  • field studies

The programme has an emphasis on environmental studies, which links to the Primary and Middle Years Programmes of the International Baccalaureate.

In Year 10, boys choose from a variety of expeditions:

  • Leeuwin

  • Surfing

  • Bushwalking

  • Canoeing

  • Cycling

  • Climbing, Caving & Abseiling

  • White Water Kayaking

  • Sea Kayaking

These expeditions are seen as the culmination of a boys Outdoor Education experience at Scotch.
