Our Teddy Bears' Picnic

It might have been a rainy day, but the weather certainly didn't dampen our spirits when PLC Kindergarten visited.

To a child, a teddy is a bridge between a human and an animal. He doesn't mind being dressed in ridiculous hats, or even being read to. You can blame him for anything, and he won't deny it. His marvellous face expresses anything a child wants to feel or hear.

As part of our unit of inquiry into the transdisciplinary theme, 'How We Express Ourselves', the children have investigated ways to communicate with others through art and digital technology.

After drawing a teddy bear still-life portrait with a permanent marker and watercolour paint, the children took photographs of their art and brought the teddy bear to life via the Chatterpix Kids app.

The children used this app as a platform to create a digital invitation to invite their friends at PLC Kindergarten to a Teddy Bears' Picnic at Scotch College.

On a wet and windy Wednesday morning, our friends at PLC Kindergarten boarded the bus and excitedly made their way to our Scotch Kindergarten classroom. Due to inclement weather, we were forced to hold our Teddy Bears' Picnic indoors, but this most certainly did not dampen our spirits!

Our morning began with singing and dancing to the most well-known teddy bear songs around before sharing a story about a bear hunt. We used this story as a provocation to create our very own teddy bear adventure. Ten tiny teddy bears numbered from one through to ten were hidden around the Kindergarten room. Both PLC and Scotch Kindergarten children worked together as a team to locate all of the hiding bears.

Throughout the morning, we decorated bear-shaped gingerbread biscuits, poured cups of tea for our teddy, painted teddy portraits with watercolour paint and explored the room together before enjoying the most scrumptious Teddy Bears' Picnic feast together.

It was a very special morning, and we are very much looking forward to visiting our friends at PLC very soon for some more wonderful adventures!
