Scotch partners with St Hilda's for a new Rowing programme

Scotch College and St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls have teamed up to create a new Rowing partnership that is a first in Western Australia.

Working in close collaboration, the two schools have signed a licence agreement and appointed a shared Head of Rowing that will see Scotch and St Hilda's working together to create a combined Rowing programme. Under the agreement, St Hilda's will move their Rowing home-base to the Scotch Boat Shed in 2023 after the upcoming refurbishments have been completed.

Scotch College Headmaster Dr Alec O'Connell said he was pleased to offer St Hilda's an opportunity to row closer to home and provide a modern, flexible space that gave girls as equal time on the water as the boys.

"We had committed to improving our facilities, so this partnership provided us with additional confidence to go ahead and reconsider how we ran the programme," he said.

Not only does this mean we can maximise the efficiency of our assets, but we now also have the opportunity to create a holistic programme that runs across both seasons.

St Hilda's Principal Fiona Johnston said the partnership has come after years of investigation and evaluation.

"The opportunity for our crews to row closer to home has been part of the school's strategic agenda for many years. We explored many options and believe that this partnership will deliver us long-term benefits that secures us a permanent 'home-base' for our Rowing programme," she said.

"This agreement will offer our girls more time on the water and more efficient movements back to campus after training."

Scotch and St Hilda's have appointed world-class rowing coach Paul Bolton as their new shared Head of Rowing. Commencing in July 2021, he will oversee both schools' Rowing programmes.

St Hilda's will continue training out of the UWA Crawley rowing sheds while the Scotch Rowing facilities are upgraded. The partnership will commence in 2023.
