Cape to Cape 2010
On a wave of wonderful weather
Twenty five students from year 10 had the good fortune to encounter a week of superb weather on the Cape to Cape track in the last week of last term. Two self sufficient groups began the walk, one starting from the Caper Naturaliste and walking south, and the other starting from Cape Leeuwin and walking north, the trek beginning with the traditional touching of the lighthouse. A window of unseasonably warm weather provided summery conditions on the breezy coastal walk. The deep blue of the ocean contrasted with the pale olive of the coastal scrub, while broaching whales, diving gannets and even dolphins catching waves were seen as the groups wound their way over dunes and the in and out of the Boranup Karri forest. Huge waves curled and fell, their crests blown away by steady cool breezes. Happy boys touched the stone walls of each lighthouse, sharing a fitting end to a rich and satisfying challenge.
