Service Trips
Scotch has developed longstanding partnerships with schools and orphanages in remote Australia, India, Tanzania and Cambodia A number of tours have taken place to communities in each of these countries.
Boys have an opportunity to travel to the Jigalong Aboriginal Community in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia. During their stay in the settlement, they work with primary aged students in their classrooms and run sports activities. Boys have an opportunity to learn about traditional aboriginal culture and take part in journeys into the surrounding desert area.
The tour to India combines with St Mary's Anglican Girls' School to visit an orphanage, a number of schools and an animal welfare charity. The group travels throughout India visiting cities including New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Boys take part in activities such as assisting with classroom lessons, renovating buildings and playing sport with local children. Group members raise money prior to the trip to purchase materials used during the project and to donate to the places visited. The Tanzania tour, in partnership with Presbyterian Ladies' College, travels to Matipwili, a remote rural village north of Dar es Salaam to complete work aimed at improving educational opportunities. For most of one week, students labour alongside local students and village tradesmen. Materials needed for the work are purchased using money fundraised by tour participants. In Cambodia, boys work in Soun Sah village, near Siem Reap, building a school and providing basic services to the community. Work is carried out in partnership with Rotary Australia. The tour to Cambodia also includes a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Ankor and historical and cultural sites around Phnom Penh.
