2010 Skilled Corporate Triathlon

An early morning start was not enough to hold back Jack Sinclair (40mins 12 secs), Hamish Lamond (46.15) both of Year 10 Keys, and Douglas Foulkes-Taylor (41 mins 03 secs), Hamish McDougall (50.47) of Year 9 Keys, from participating in the local Triathlon at Fremantle on 21 March. The course, 250m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run, was a relatively easy one designed to attract participation and new beginners. Ably supported by two staff teams from the SOSE and Maths department, the boys showed a good combination of dash and stamina to place a very commendable 13th overall for our Year 10 boys and 23rd overall for our Year 9 boys.

Worthy of a mention were the efforts of the Scotch Maths department who came 6th overall. Dissention was in the ranks, however, because these exceptional athletes could very well have gone on to win the day had one participant learnt to count. Lawrence Felgate, a Maths teacher of exceptional ability, did four laps of the course instead of the three as indicated in the race instructions, race briefing and the road marshalls! Nothing like a teacher for listening to instructions.

To add insult to injury, another Maths Teacher, Mr Ray Hill, showed everyone how Heads of Departments do it, casually taking out the $500 mountain bike raffle prize at the end, despite being an injured participant.
