Scotch College is a leading private primary school in Perth, offering a world-class education for boys in Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5. Our Junior School offers a wide variety of intellectual, physical, and creative opportunities for our students, encouraging them to explore and try new things while learning more about themselves.
Our staff are committed to helping your son achieve his personal goals and have fun along the way.
Our Junior School is structured into two pillars, Early Years (Pre-Kindergarten–Year 2) and Primary Years (Years 3–5). We pride ourselves on providing exciting and all-encompassing programmes, tailored to how boys learn best.
From our Early Learning Centre through to Year 5, our youngest learners are empowered to think independently and become active inquirers through play, exploration, and investigation.
In the Primary Years, we recognise that boys have different needs as they grow and learn at different rates.
Junior School curriculum at Scotch
At Scotch, we are committed to building solid literacy and numeracy skills whilst offering a breadth of stimulating subjects.
We teach the Western Australian Curriculum within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through the PYP, our students are encouraged to be curious about the world around them and pursue areas of interest in their learning.
At Scotch we are committed to supporting all students, including those with learning challenges as well as those who are recognised as academically talented.
We believe that every student is entitled to relevant, engaging and differentiated learning opportunities that nurture their social, emotional and intellectual development. Our approach ensures each boy is provided with the support and opportunity needed to thrive.
Our learning pillars

Early Years (Pre-K to Year 2)
As one of Perth’s leading early learning centre’s we understand that the Early Years is when children are in their peak developmental and learning phase. This is where good quality teaching can have the most significant impact on a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development.
At Scotch, we see every child as resourceful, curious and full of potential. Our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme celebrates diversity and supports each child’s unique identity.
Through play, exploration and nature-based learning, children become confident inquirers. Our learning environments are thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity.
We build strong partnerships with families and the community, creating a safe, supportive environment where children develop independence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

Primary Years (Years 3 to 5)
In the Primary Years, we recognise that boys have different needs as they grow and learn at different rates. As an all boys primary school, our experienced teachers have a strong understanding of teaching and engaging boys at each age.
As a leading private primary school in Perth, we combine traditional teaching methods with modern approaches to education, like the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, to offer a well-rounded education.
Inclusive education
Our Inclusive Education programme fosters a safe, supportive classroom environment and an inclusive learning culture, ensuring each child builds strong foundations for their educational journey.
Our Junior School prioritises individual growth by offering targeted support, direct intervention, and tailored learning plans that respond to each student’s unique needs and abilities. From the moment a student begins his schooling with us, we carefully track and monitor progress to ensure he is receiving the appropriate support at every stage.
This proactive and personalised approach helps to eliminate learning gaps, while also providing challenges and enrichment opportunities that empower our students to thrive. With this strong foundation in place, each student is well-prepared to transition confidently into Middle School and beyond.
Enrichment Programme
The Enrichment Programme provides our most academically able students with rich, challenging, learning opportunities beyond the mainstream curriculum. The programme is designed to offer depth and breadth of opportunity in support of a student’s intellectual, social and emotional growth.
The programme is designed to align with current best practices in the field of gifted and talented education and is characterised by unique and exciting collaborations between our sub-schools and cross-campus collaboration with our sister school, Presbyterian Ladies’ College.
Some opportunities are by invitation and based on outstanding performance in a subject-specific domain or multiple domains. Others are selected by aptitude, application and interest. Opportunities include clubs, broadening initiatives, competitions and tailored outreach programmes with our partners in industry and academia.
Learning beyond the classroom
At Scotch College, we recognise that outdoor learning experiences are essential in the early years. Learning outdoors promotes a sense of wonder, imagination and curiosity in ways that the classroom can’t.
Nature school programme
From as early as Pre-Kindergarten, our Early Learning Centre and Junior School experience the outdoors at our immersive Bush School. Set under the trees on the edge of our Playing Fields, we have a purposefully designed and built Bush School. The boys’ learning is extended and purposefully designed in the natural features of this space.
In Years 1 and 2, their learning moves to the banks of the Swan River and the sandy shores of Cottesloe Beach to participate in our co-educational Beach and River School with our sister school, Presbyterian Ladies’ College. The students are involved in rich, curriculum-linked experiences that integrate science, geography, mathematics and sustainability. Through hands-on exploration, they investigate local ecosystems, observe seasonal changes and consider human impact on the environment.
These sessions foster social development, encouraging collaboration, communication, resilience and a deeper appreciation for our natural world.
Our Nature School programme offers authentic and provoking experiences; for many of our students, it’s a highlight.
Outdoor education
Outdoor education is an essential part of the curriculum and has immense importance for students’ personal growth and social development. It builds independence, challenges physical fitness and fosters friendships. Our Outdoor Education programme emphasises environmental studies, which link to the IB’s Primary Years Programmes.
In Year 4, our students begin their Outdoor Education journey, learning to camp, cook, read maps and sleep out, right on our own Playing Fields.
In Year 5, students head to Moray, our dedicated Outdoor Education site in Dwellingup. Surrounded by Jarrah Forest and the Murray River, it’s the ideal setting for hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing and team building.
