Scotch College offers a world-class education for boys in Years 9 to 12. Our Senior School community fosters a culture of academic excellence, personal growth and strong pastoral care.
Our Senior School community has a supportive culture of learning and compassion. Intellectual development is only one component of what we do. Our priority is to help each student discover their identity and reach their full potential within a safe and nurturing environment.
At Scotch, success or excellence isn’t confined to the classroom. Our stimulating academic, sport, arts, co-curricular and enrichment programmes help each student uncover his passion and achieve excellence in his chosen field.
We understand that success is more than academic results, it’s about developing well-rounded young men ready to thrive in the real world.
At Scotch, success or excellence isn’t confined to the classroom.

Senior School curriculum
Delivered within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Programme, the West Australian Curriculum and the Australian Curriculum, our Teaching and Learning programmes encourage self-driven and inquiry-based learning.
We strive to holistically educate our students to become compassionate young people who use their knowledge for good.

Senior school pathways
Our Senior School students are given the flexibility to choose the academic pathway that best suits their personal strengths and learning preferences.
All students are encouraged to follow the best academic pathway based on their aptitudes and learning styles with students in Years 11 and 12 having the option to undertake the International Baccalaureate Diploma, WACE or VET programmes.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
As an established IB School in Australia, we are proud to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a globally recognised curriculum offered in more than 5,300 schools in 158 countries and recognised widely by universities around the world.
IB Diploma students study courses from six defined subject groups, including Humanities, Sciences, Mathematics and Languages. As part of the course students complete a 4,000 word Extended Essay of their choice, a Theory of Knowledge component as well as CAS (creativity, activity and service).
Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE)
The WACE programme is derived from the Western Australian Curriculum and offers students both Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and Vocational Education and Training pathways (VET).
Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) pathway
The ATAR pathway is one of three options offered at Scotch. Following the WACE programme, this pathway is designed for students who plan to apply for an Australian university after school. Students are required to complete a minimum of four ATAR courses.
These courses are examined externally, and the results are used to calculate their ATAR – a number between 0 and 99.95 that ranks them against other students across Australia.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathway
Students complete a nationally recognised VET qualification. This pathway builds skills and knowledge in and for the workplace. Students may use VET qualifications to count towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

Breadth of opportunities
As one of Perth’s leading private school for boys, we pride ourselves on recognising our students as individuals by providing a wide variety of opportunities to meet their different interests and learning styles inside and outside the classroom.
At Scotch, we are proud to offer an extensive Co-Curricular programme. These opportunities afford avenues for our students to broaden their education, develop new skills and build confidence.
Some opportunities include sports, the arts, outdoor education, and enrichment that help develop and pursue their areas of interest.

Pastoral care in Senior School
Pastoral care is key to a successful learning journey. Each student in Senior School is placed in a House, a sub-community where students receive close attention and connect with their peers. These Houses are fronted by a House Head and supported by other mentor teachers, who monitor and support students as they progress through Senior School.
Each morning begins with mentor group – a key point of connection and support for our students. These groups operate within a ‘vertical’ House system, bringing together boys from Years 9 to 12. This structure fosters strong relationships across year levels, offering younger students role models and mentors, while giving older boys the opportunity to lead. It also helps create a genuine sense of belonging and community within the College.
Building solid personal, social, wellbeing and academic foundations is crucial in our mission to develop well-rounded and resilient young people.

Inclusive education and academic enrichment
At Scotch we are committed to supporting all students, including those with learning challenges as well as those who are recognised as academically talented.
As one of Perth’s leading all boys schools we believe that every student is entitled to relevant, engaging and differentiated learning opportunities that nurture their social, emotional and intellectual development. Our approach ensures each boy is provided with the support and opportunity needed to thrive.
Inclusive education
Scotch College is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where all students, including those with diverse learning needs and those identified as gifted and talented, are equally valued and supported.
Our Inclusive Education Programme ensures that every student builds strong foundations for lifelong learning by offering evidence-based, targeted interventions and individualised learning adjustment plans through on-going data collection.
An Inclusive Education (IE) teacher oversees a particular year group so both parents and students have a point of contact for any concerns. In Senior School the IE teacher collaborates with the psychology team, Heads of Houses, curriculum leaders, subject teachers to ensure students are well supported academically and pastorally.
Enrichment programme
The Enrichment Programme provides our most academically able students with rich, challenging, learning opportunities beyond the mainstream curriculum. The programme is designed to offer depth and breadth of opportunity in support of a student’s intellectual, social and emotional growth.
The programme is designed to align with current best practices in the field of gifted and talented education and is characterised by unique and exciting collaborations between our sub-schools and cross-campus collaboration with our sister school, Presbyterian Ladies’ College.
Some opportunities are by invitation and based on outstanding performance in a subject-specific domain or multiple domains. Others are selected by aptitude, application and interest. Opportunities include clubs, broadening initiatives, competitions and tailored outreach programmes with our partners in industry and academia.
