Our Junior School guides our Early Years (Pre-Kindergarten–Year 2) to their Primary Years (Years 3–5). We cultivate this transition through exciting and all-encompassing programmes, tailored to how boys learn best.
From our Early Learning Centre through to Year 5, our youngest learners are empowered to think independently and become active inquirers through play, exploration, and investigation.

Early Years (Pre-K to Year 2)

Primary Years (Years 3 to 5)
In the Primary Years, we recognise that boys have different needs as they grow and learn at different rates. As an all boys primary school, our experienced teachers have a strong understanding of teaching and engaging boys at each age.

Enrichment Programme
The Enrichment Programme provides our most academically able students with rich, challenging, learning opportunities beyond the mainstream curriculum. The programme is designed to offer depth and breadth of opportunity in support of a student’s intellectual, social and emotional growth.
The programme is designed to align with current best practices in the field of gifted and talented education and is characterised by unique and exciting collaborations between our sub-schools and cross-campus collaboration with our sister school, Presbyterian Ladies’ College.
Some opportunities are by invitation and based on outstanding performance in a subject-specific domain or multiple domains. Others are selected by aptitude, application and interest. Opportunities include clubs, broadening initiatives, competitions and tailored outreach programmes with our partners in industry and academia.
Learning beyond the classroom
At Scotch College, we recognise that outdoor learning experiences are essential in the early years. Learning outdoors promotes a sense of wonder, imagination and curiosity in ways that the classroom can’t.
Nature School programme
Nature School begins at Pre-Kindergarten. The programme is designed to foster social development, encourage collaboration, communication, resilience and a deeper appreciation for our natural world.
Junior School students venture to the edge of our playing fields, neighbouring Lake Claremont, to investigate local ecosystems, observe seasonal change, and consider the relationship between urban green spaces and the natural environment.
In Years 1 and 2, boys take part in River and Beach School alongside our sister school, Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC). These co-educational sessions take learning to the banks of the Swan River and the shores of Cottesloe Beach, building social confidence in a shared outdoor setting.
Curriculum-linked and hands-on, these sessions weave science, geography, and sustainability into the kind of learning that stays with a boy long after the day is done[B
Outdoor Learning programme
Outdoor Learning is an essential part of the curriculum and has immense importance for students’ personal growth and social development. It builds independence, challenges physical fitness and fosters friendships. Our Outdoor Education programme emphasises environmental studies, which link to the IB’s Primary Years Programmes.
In Year 3, students are introduced to Outdoor Learning through fun, discovery and exploration with a day excursion.
In Year 4, students participate in an overnight experience right on our Playing Fields. Developing responsibility, cooperation and a sense of community while learning to camp, cook and read maps.
In Year 5, students head to Moray, our dedicated Outdoor Education site in Dwellingup. Surrounded by Jarrah Forest and the Murray River, it’s the ideal setting for hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing and team building.

Little Pipers is a free, early learning programme that fosters our youngest community members’ love of learning. These sessions are a great way to explore our Early Learning Centre. These sessions are held on a Monday and Friday morning during the school term.
