Our IB Primary Years Programme celebrates diversity and supports each child’s unique identity.
Our learning pillars
Early years (Pre-k to Year 2)
As one of Perth’s leading early learning centres we understand that the Early Years is when children are in their peak developmental and learning phase. This is where good quality teaching has the most significant impact on a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development.
At Scotch, we see every child as resourceful, curious and full of potential. Our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme celebrates diversity and supports each child’s unique identity.
Through play, exploration and nature-based learning, children become confident inquirers. Our learning environments are thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity.
We build strong partnerships with families and the community, creating a safe, supportive environment where children develop independence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.
Primary Years (Years 3 to 5)
In the Primary Years, we recognise that boys have different needs as they grow and learn at different rates. As an all-boys primary school, our experienced teachers have a strong understanding of teaching and engaging boys at each age.
We combine traditional teaching methods with modern approaches to education, like the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, to offer a well-rounded education.

Why Scotch’s Early Learning Centre?
What positions us among some of the best Early Learning Centres in Perth? At Scotch, we pride ourselves on providing exciting and all-encompassing programmes, tailored to how boys learn best.
Bush School programme
We believe that outdoor learning experiences are essential in the early years. Learning outdoors promotes a sense of wonder, imagination and curiosity in ways that the classroom can’t.
We take full advantage of our unique position near beautiful Lake Claremont. The abundant and unique flora of Western Australia in this area allows us to offer an authentic nature play programme. From as early as Pre-Kindergarten, our Early Learners experience the outdoors at our immersive Bush School, set under the trees on the edge of our Playing Fields.
Student-centred teaching
As an all-boys school, we tailor our programmes to how boys learn best. Our approach to Early Education draws from a combination of the International Primary Years Programme and the student-centred, experiential principles of the Reggio Emilia approach.
Our Early Learning Centre teachers observe each child’s play, listen to their questions and discover what interests them. Teachers then create opportunities to explore students’ passions. These engaging and tailored activities assisting the development of foundational skills for pre-literacy and pre-numeracy.
We regularly assess your child’s skills in a range of areas to help us tailor their learning programme. All children are screened by our Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist, so we can identify any underlying issues that may need attention early.
Specialist programmes
At Scotch we are proud to offer a breadth of programmes run by our specialist teachers. Some programmes include Music, French, Bush School, and Physical Education.
Music Every Day programme
Music education plays an essential role in developing flexible, focused and skilled minds. At Scotch College, this starts with our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Our Music Every Day programme recognises the fascinating links between music, memory and the brain, and it is delivered by specialist teachers.
Language learning
As an International Baccalaureate school, we approach education with a global outlook. We recognise that from as young as Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten the brain is very receptive to learning languages. Whilst at our Early Learning Centre and throughout their Junior School journey, our youngest learners have the opportunity to learn French.
Flexi-day programmes
Thanks to our flexible early learning programmes, you can choose which days of the week your child attends our Early Learning Centre.
While we always attempt to accommodate families’ preferences as much as possible, please note that all enrolments are dependent upon class availability.
