Whether your son is from regional Western Australia, interstate, or overseas, our structured and nurturing environment equips boarders with the skills to grow academically, emotionally and socially — both during their time at Scotch and beyond.
There’s no need to hang out alone when you’ve got 30 other mates and brothers to spend time with.

Our diverse community
As one of the most inclusive boarding schools WA has to offer, our boarders come from all walks of life — from country towns and coastal communities across the state, to cities and international destinations. Their unique backgrounds enrich our wider Scotch community and help shape a dynamic and supportive boarding culture.
A community built on family values
Scotch College provides more than just a place to stay — it’s a true home away from home. Our boarding school is grounded in strong family values, respectful relationships and a pastoral care system that ensures every boy is known and cared for.
We foster close peer connections, respectful staff relationships and open communication with families. As a diverse and welcoming community, we provide a supportive home where boys can grow emotionally, socially, and academically.
Our Boarding Houses are home to around 10% of the student population, supported by a dedicated team of boarding and academic staff. Six families live onsite to provide daily care and guidance, while an extended team offers academic support, coaching, and wellbeing assistance.
Easing the transition to boarding
Moving from home to boarding can be a big step, but our caring staff, welcoming environment, and exceptional location make the transition easier.
At Scotch, our dedicated team helps each boy transition into boarding life through tailored support, a welcoming community and an outstanding central location amongst the best of Perth boarding schools.
Our transitional programme, known as the Taigh Programme, is designed specifically to assist first time boarders build friendships and confidence before they officially begin their boarding journey at Scotch. Through weekly online meetings and in-person orientation camps, students enter their first term already feeling part of the Scotch family.

Student wellbeing and support
Student wellbeing
To ensure every boy feels supported, our boarding school maintains a high staff-to-student ratio. Each Boarding House has a dedicated Housemother who provides emotional support and acts as a key link between school and home.
The Head of Residence — an academic staff member living onsite — oversees student wellbeing and serves as the main point of contact for families. They take a holistic view of each boy’s development and can connect him with our nurses, psychologists, Chaplain, or other support staff if needed.
Academic support
At Scotch, we pride ourselves on being an academically supportive boarding school for boys. Our Heads of Residence work closely with each student’s homeroom teacher and House Heads to ensure they are receiving the guidance needed to thrive.
When it comes to homework, assignments and study, your son can get help whenever he needs it with our open-door tutoring system. Running every weekday evening, academic staff and tutors provide ongoing tutoring support.
Many of our tutors are recent high achieving graduates now studying at university. Often close in age, they frequently become mentors and role models for our students.

Our traditions
Walking the Bibbulmun Track is an iconic part of boarding at Scotch. It’s a journey that bonds boarders for life. Our boarders come off the track with greater independence, knowledge of themselves and what they can achieve, and relationships that have been tested and strengthened through perseverance and camaraderie.
These shared experiences define our boarding community and enable boarders to discover what it takes to develop grit and resilience.

Recreational activities
At Scotch College, your son will have numerous recreational activities that challenge and enrich them physically, socially, emotionally and academically.
Activities include local and international sporting events, joining local sporting clubs, cultural activities in the City of Perth and surrounding areas, inter-boarding school socialising. Boys will also be supported if they wish to find a part-time job.
We provide countless avenues for boys to stay active, connected and inspired.
