Keeping it in the Family

The Darlot Cup is one of the oldest sporting trophies in Western Australia.

In a short season of only six games, with no finals and often subject to the vagaries of autumn weather, it is a difficult trophy to win. It is highly coveted by the State's PSA cricketers and to win one is considered very special.

To have four Darlot's won in one family is extraordinary.

When Scotch College secured the Cup at the end of March, Vice Captain Daniel Coughlan became the fourth member of his family to hold the trophy. His brother Kalen, kept wickets for the victorious Scotch side in the school's last win two years ago, while his grandfather, John Hill was a member of the College's winning side of 1949.

Father Keith was a part of the victorious team of 1980 - although he wasn't wearing the Scotch baggy maroon cap at the time, being an old boy of Trinity College. He did however have a hand in the last two Scotch wins as a bowling coach for both teams.

The Darlot Cup will be proudly displayed in the College's trophy cabinet.
