Across the creative industries, the boundaries between artistic disciplines are dissolving. Musicians collaborate with filmmakers, visual artists work with performers, and creative projects increasingly exist at the intersection of multiple art-forms.
At Scotch, we encourage our students to experience the reality of multidisciplinary collaboration through Intersection, an annual arts event where students collaborate across music, film, drama, and visual art.
More than a showcase, it is an opportunity for our community to experience fresh collaborations, bold ideas, and share in the creative journey of the Arts students as they reach the midpoint of the academic year. An interactive element of the event allows the audience to choose their own adventure, moving through various performances and exhibitions, transforming our College into a vibrant festival environment.
In 2026, Intersection saw performances across all three learning pathways (ATAR, IB and AAP/VET), with these works standing as a testament to the skill of our students and the value we place on the creative process. A glance at the contemporary arts landscape shows how frequently artists combine multiple disciplines within their work. Intersection creates an exciting space for this to grow, particularly for the IB Music collaborative project, which blends sound, visual, and performing arts.
Preparing work for Intersection encourages students to explore beyond their comfort zones, developing capabilities increasingly valued in the creative industries, including creative agility, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple contributors.
In a digital world shaped by instant gratification and the increased loss of creative thought from the emergence of artificial intelligence, students can sometimes expect creative outcomes to appear quickly, bringing immediate satisfaction. Yet meaningful artistic work rarely happens this way. The process of experimentation, development of ideas, and practice of technique is where the deepest learning occurs, ultimately leading to a genuine sense of accomplishment.
As the creative industries continue to evolve, arts education must create spaces where experimentation, collaboration, and interdisciplinary thinking can flourish. Intersection offers exactly that: a place where students not only present their work, but experience the creative process as artists increasingly do in the world beyond school.
