Knowing the Boy

Pastoral Care at Scotch encompasses everything that we do to support your son emotionally, socially and academically. As part of our framework of ‘Knowing the boy’, your son is known and supported by multiple staff across our school.

Teachers, the on-site Chaplain, psychologists, year-level coordinators and House Heads are among the staff who play an active role in ensuring that students are understood and nurtured during their educational journey. Initiatives are actioned both within and outside the classroom through age-appropriate specialist programmes, events and presentations.

Knowing the boy is also enacted through differentiated learning, which means understanding how each student learns best and using different learning techniques to meet the students’ needs. We know what they need to move onto the next level of their learning and ensure that work remains challenging and engaging for them all the way through their journey.

Schools are, or should be, people places. Their primary purpose is to help young people to develop their potential to the full – that is, to nurture them as they grow and change.

Pastoral care

Feeling a sense of belonging and connection to the Scotch community are key elements of our pastoral care and wellbeing approach, and the foundation on which our College is built.

Our Pastoral Care programme is designed to create a web of connections that includes peers, older and younger students, Scotch graduates and the College staff who can support each child’s individual endeavours.

We understand everyone’s journey is unique, and offer multiple levels of social and emotional guidance, spiritual and academic support, and professional counselling for students facing personal challenges including stress, anxiety, and depression.

Our Pastoral Care programme is purposely crafted to support each boy at his specific stage of development.

Pastoral care touchpoints

To support your son, we have a variety of staff across our sub-schools who act as touchpoints when your son is in need of emotional, social or academic support.
