Since the start of 2026, an extensive tuition programme funded by the Old Scotch Collegians (OSC) has connected students with recent graduates, who provide subject-specific tutoring after dinner within walking distance of the Boarding House.
From Tuesday to Thursday, Year 11 and 12 students, both boarders and day boys, can book targeted sessions across a range of subjects offered using the StudyGrid booking platform which was created by alumni James Anderson (OSC 2022).
Sessions are deliberately small (maximum of six students), targeted and device-free.
Most WACE and IB subjects are covered across a two-week cycle, with tutors curated by Mr Jack Utting, Dean of Boarding Academics and Data Analysis, who oversees the programme.

The OSC Tuition Programme emphasises the OSC’s commitment to fostering a ‘community for life’, with alumni university students returning to support current students.
Steve Montgomery, Head of Boarding, has been instrumental in establishing the programme:
“We are incredibly proud of the programme and the genuine point of difference it offers to Scotch and Boarding.
It gives our senior boys the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and connect with Old Scotch Collegians who have walked the path themselves and understand the Scotch journey, the pressures of ATAR/the IB, and the expectations of the classroom.“
Students across both day school and boarding are engaging strongly with the programme, with early signs of measurable academic improvement.

Year 11 boarder Riley, who uses the programme to support Chemistry and Mathematics Methods preparation, explains:
“Having the opportunity to have tutoring, free of charge, is incredible. It has helped increase my marks considerably in Chemistry by roughly 20% and Methods by 10%.
Having high-quality tutors accessible to all Year 11–12 students is an amazing opportunity. Even one or two sessions a week can make a significant difference.”
While the programme is still in its early stages, it has quickly gained momentum, strengthening the connection between current students and the wider OSC network.
It is already playing an important role in supporting students as they navigate the increasing academic demands of Semester two, including mock examinations and final IB and ATAR assessments.
