Over the last fortnight, we announced our 2026/27 whole-of-school leadership positions. While much of their work will be within the Senior School, these boys carry a whole-of-school responsibility on my behalf.
Congratulations to the following boys: Captain of School, William Carmichael (St Andrew’s House); Vice-Captain of School Operations, Angus Crawford (Anderson House); Vice-Captain of Service, Oliver Paterson (Stuart House); and Boarding Captain, Oliver Risinger (Anderson House).
One of the great advantages of a PK-12 school is the opportunity to provide a coherent and connected educational journey from a child’s earliest years through to graduation. Central to this vision is the important role played by whole-of-school leaders. As Simon Sinek reminds us, “Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.”
This simple but powerful statement captures the essence of leadership in schools, where the focus of student leaders, in conjunction with our staff, must always be on creating the conditions for young people to flourish.
Whole-of-school leaders have the privilege of seeing the broader picture. They work across year levels, campuses and programs to create alignment in teaching and learning, wellbeing, leadership development, service, and co-curricular opportunities. Their role is not simply to manage individual areas but to connect people, ideas and initiatives so that every decision is made with the long-term growth of students in mind.
As we continue to look ahead, I remain deeply grateful for the commitment, wisdom and collaboration of our whole-of-school leaders who have led us over the past 12 months. Their ability to think strategically, act collaboratively and place students at the centre of all they do is fundamental to the success of our School.
Celebrating Junior School Book Week and the Pantomime
Book Week and the Junior School Pantomime are two of the most anticipated events in the School calendar, and for good reason. Both provide rich opportunities for imagination, creativity and joy. Book Week encourages a lifelong love of reading, opening young minds to new ideas, adventures and perspectives. The Pantomime brings stories to life, fostering confidence, creativity, teamwork and a sense of wonder.
Together, these experiences remind our boys that learning extends far beyond the classroom and that stories have the power to inspire, entertain and connect us. Thank you to our Junior School staff and students for providing such a wonderful celebratory event last Wednesday.
Thank You, Ms Hodges
We offer our heartfelt thanks to Ms Hodges as she retires after six years of dedicated service as Head of Junior School. Throughout her time at Scotch, Ms Hodges has shown an unwavering commitment to the boys in her care, their families, and the staff she has led and supported.
Her warmth, professionalism, wisdom and deep understanding of young people have enriched our Junior School community and strengthened our Executive team. She leaves a legacy of care, excellence and genuine service that will continue to shape the lives of many students and families for years to come.
On behalf of our entire community, we thank Ms Hodges for her outstanding contribution and wish her every happiness and fulfilment in the exciting chapter ahead.
