Career Accelerator Programme

Are you a driven university student, mid-to-end of degree, seeking to excel in your early career? We're offering a remarkable opportunity to join our weeklong intensive residential Career Accelerator Programme from Monday 10 to Friday 14 July 2023.

This comprehensive live-in workshop will help you forge valuable corporate connections, executive-level mentorship, industry-specific problem-based learning and career leadership training that will launch your future. The programme is hosted by Scotch College in the prime location of Swanbourne, boasting state-of-the-art facilities.

Our corporate partners

Our corporate partners will challenge your team with an industry-specific problem and provide executive-level mentorship to advance your thinking. On top of this, you will receive training in skills targeting early career advancements, such as board room conduct, smart interview techniques, social media training, effective communication strategies and more.

Throughout the week, you will share dinner with your peers whilst hearing from inspirational speakers who have accelerated their careers, such as Co-Founder of Student Edge Jeremy Chetty, Founder and CEO of Living Online Evan Cunningham-Dunlop and Founder and CEO of SpaceDraft and Lucy Cooke.

To top off the week, you will present your solution to our most prestigious business and corporate partners at our cocktail party. With the training and support you will receive, prepare to launch your career.

What's happening?

Day One

On arrival, you will receive a tote bag full of goodies and explore our stunning facilities. 

By the end of day one, you will have a team of students to work with, an executive mentor, visit your corporate partner who will present your problem and share a meal with your new friends before smashing out a collaborative planning session.

Day Two

Wakey, wakey! It's a 6.30am start with our resident yoga and mindfulness coach Cherie Lewis. This practical session teaches the importance of a clear mindset in clear strategic thinking. Then, you'll work with your team on your corporate problem. After a series of workshops, you will hear from Guest Speaker Dr O'Connell, who has over 30 years of extensive leadership experience across various sectors.

Day Three

Start the day with yoga and mindfulness, followed by breakfast with guest speaker Ashley McGrath, a gender equity trailblazer. Time to connect with your corporate mentor for advice and clarification before returning to progressing your solution to the corporate problem. Some high-level workshops before dinner with inspiring youngster Lucy Cooke, Founder and CEO of Space Draft.

Day Four

Get up for yoga with Cherie and a warm breakfast with Evan Cunningham-Dunlop, CEO of Living Online. Inspired and ready to take your career into your own hands, the day focuses on making the most of your personal brand and impressing your leadership in challenging situations. You will have lots of time to ask questions about how to nail a job application and share the best version of yourself online. You also need time to prepare for the Friday night finale so we have more time to prepare your presentation.

Day Five

Day Five is here already, and our focus for the day is making you and your team shine. With a cocktail party set to blow your mind, we aim to settle the nerves, focus your attention on strategy, and put in place all that you have learned throughout the week. Your executive mentor will guide you through the day and ensure your presentation pops and you are prepared to network confidently with charisma. The skies are the limit for you!

Who is it for?

Open to all genders, the Programme is designed for university-aged students (particularly those who are mid-degree) or those who are new to the workforce up to 25 years of age. If you want to develop critical transferable workplace skills, industry experience and business connections, this Programme is for you.

What does it include?

A jam-packed itinerary of learning and development, including workplace skills workshops, industry guest speakers, movement and mindfulness, working on industry-led projects, developing own career tools such as CVs, professional social media profiling and personal brand building, plus experience working collaboratively and developing strategic solutions.

When is it happening?

The Career Accelerator Programme is happening across five days, from Mon 10 – Fri 14 Jul 2023.

Throughout the Programme, you will stay in our Senior School Boarding House. Each day starts with movement and mindfulness sessions, before breakfast speakers and workplace learning and development sessions. You will finish each day with mentor sessions, dinner speakers, student group work collaboration and by working with business partners.

How will it help me in my career?

You will develop critical workplace skills and create connections with industry leaders and business partners, giving insight into the requirements, demands and future of working within organisations and helping you to develop your career trajectory.

By the end of the week, not only will you be able to showcase to partnering businesses an ability to collaborate and connect, you will develop an excellent resume, create a professional brand, broaden your professional network, communicate your strengths, understand recruitment strategies and nail tricky interview questions.

What will I learn?

Our intensive workshops and seminars will help you build critical skills like effective communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.

You will gain sought-after hands-on experiences and professional skills and access valuable insights from industry leaders that are difficult to achieve elsewhere.

What do I need to bring?

Bring a laptop to take notes and access our learning modules – and don't forget your charger.

You may like to bring your pillow and blanket to use in our accommodation, plus any medication and personal items.

We will provide the rest.

What do I wear?

Smart attire for the learning and development sessions (no thongs, sweatpants, ripped denim or leggings).

Business attire for the industry connect days, such as collared shirts, trousers, skirts, jackets and closed-in shoes.

Casual activewear for the morning movement sessions.

What if I have dietary requirements?

Our team of caterers can accomodate for all dietary requirements – simply let us know upon registration.

Who will be facilitating the Programme?

A team of expert facilitators, trainers, teachers and industry professionals, along with subject matter experts, entrepreneurs and specialists.

I won't know anyone attending the Programme, is that OK?

Absolutely. In fact, the Programme is designed to link you with industry professionals and your peers.

Our team of mentors will help you develop collaborative working groups, guide your team along the learning journey and support you at every step.

What organisations will be involved with this Programme?

Multiplex, Nexxis, Rocky Ridge Brewing Co, Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre, Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), Health in Mind, Australian Institute of Management and more.

Where will the learning take place?

During the school holidays, our Programme will utilise the state-of-the-art buildings, facilities and grounds of Scotch College in Swanbourne. Trainers and facilitators will stay on-site for the duration of the Programme to assist you. School security protocols will apply.

What will I get at the end of the Programme?

A certificate attainment for the successful completion of the Programme.

What happens if I get sick and miss a day?

We will do our best to support you to catch up on learning.
