Scotch to expand on its current Solar Environmental Footprint

Scotch is passionate about its Western Australian roots.  It is also proud of its position as a school with an International outreach and global focus via its association with the International Baccalaureate and Round Square programmes. It is a combination of the College's local focus with an international outreach, that has driven the College Council's decision to expand their current solar footprint.

Scotch Headmaster, Dr Alec O'Connell said that:

' our goal is to encourage students of all ages to consider both local and global contexts and to encourage students of all ages to think critically and challenge assumptions. The project has been designed to be cost neutral, however, the key driver for the project is not simply fiscal returns.  In the 1980s, a time that delivered WA Inc, there were many talented fiscally driven entrepreneurs. Our goal at Scotch is to graduate students who are academically and personally successful, but who achieve their goals through a moral and environmental lens. Scotch is focussed on graduating young men who will put their moral compass before financial success.'

Scotch's Director of Community and Service, Mr David Kyle who oversees the sustainability portfolio said:

 'as a Round Square and IB school our students should be able to engage with members of society in an increasingly globalised and rapidly changing world. One of the Round Square Ideals, Environmentalism, demands that students learn about the importance of tending to the future of the planet and that students are expected to demonstrate an active interest and concern for all natural environments, to be aware of proven problems and to play a practical role in tackling environmental issues.'

Stage one is due for completion in April 2018, with the final stage planned for completion at the end of the July. When the project is fully operational, the philosophical drivers and the data based outcomes, will continue to be integrated within the academic and community service programmes already operating at the College.
