Scotch library wins big

This year the Scotch College Library was the winner of the inaugural Western Australian School Library of the Year Award.

The Library is honoured to win such a prestigious state award. Our physically welcoming learning environments, with extended hours in the Senior Library, are utilised well by the boys. The print collections are supported by a well-resourced, 24/7 online information service that includes an extensive array of non-fiction and fiction digital resources, both of which are used for both research and recreational reading. Resources are differentiated for all learners and learning styles and the library is staffed by trained professionals including a Dean of Information and Learning Technology, 4.0 FTE Information and Research Specialists, a Senior Librarian, two Library Services Specialists and a Library Services Assistant; two of our staff members are award winners in their own right and have given back to the school library community on multiple occasions. The Senior School, Middle School and Junior School libraries deliver high-quality lessons to our students on a weekly, fortnightly and ad hoc basis.

Of particular note, and in no particular order, are the: inquiry-based lessons in the Junior School; ATL Hub; Book Week and International School Library Month celebrations; support of the Home Reading, Guided Reading and Accelerated Reader programmes; Little Pipers Programme; and the development of our Indigenous and Mother Tongue Collections in 2018.

Our staff are committed to contributing to our professional library community and regularly present at WASLA /AISWA events and national and international conferences, mentor trainee Teacher Librarians and non-teaching library staff, and invite members from other school communities to visit and learn from us throughout the year. The Scotch College Library provides a comprehensive and personalised service for our boys, their families and our community.

Congratulations to our Library Staff on such a wonderful achievement!
