Year 9's Expand Their Learning Experience

Students in the Year 9 Enrichment Programme today took part in a whole day of activities focussed on Growth Mindset and Creativity as they continue to evolve as young learners.

The day began with a visit to Modus Movement Studio in Myaree where they learnt about the Ido Portal method of movement. This is a creative method of developing humans' ability to move with more complexity than other creatures on the planet. This certainly got the boys out of their comfort zone and provided them with an insight into the power of their own capabilities when they embrace their creative side.

The boys then returned to the College where they spent time with Kylie Howarth, an author and illustrator of childrens' books. She taught the boys about her creative process through demonstrating her own artistic skills, as well as helping the boys develop their own abilities as illustrators and storytellers. This was a great session teaching the boys about creative collaboration and how to both get creative ideas out of their head and onto the page.

The final activity of the day was, by far, the most mind-blowing with a visit from Pierre Ulrich – a full time magician. He mesmerised the boys with his quirky and deceptive tricks that appeared to be impossible. However he used this premise to teach the boys about how you can achieve what many people consider to be impossible as long as you have the right mindset.

It was a great day of learning for the boys by giving them a greater insight into the power of creativity as well as how their attitude can be instrumental in achieving even their most outlandish goals.
