Welcome to Scotch College

Transition, Belong, Preparing for Life

Welcome to Scotch College (WTSC) is a programme aimed at transitioning incoming boarders into Years 7 and 8, enabling the creation of friendships and a sense of belonging.

Our WTSC programme is part of Spring Term Orientation that begins with each new boarding student receiving their laptop.  The laptop is then used to participate in a six-week online transition course, exposing them to the different software and operating systems we use at Scotch.  The boys also interact with the Head of Middle School during this online course, which is invaluable for when the boys start in the new year.

The WTSC Orientation Day also involves a sleepover in the boarding house, so that each new boarding student can discover what it is like to be part of our community.

It makes such a difference when the boys feel connected and confident because they have had a 'head start' in boarding.  The programme is a must for new boarding students as they are also partnered with a buddy, to ensure they are well cared for during their stay.

The WTSC Orientation programme is not just for the boys, it is also an opportunity for parents to meet staff and parents during the Introduction to Boarding morning with a staff and parents social gathering in the evening.

WTSC is an essential part of our Orientation process in boarding, and we look forward to your son joining our community.

Residential Year 7 and Year 8 Orientation

Saturday 19 - Sunday 20 October 2019

Available to all students that will be commencing boarding in Year 7 and Year 8 at Scotch College January 2020 and 2021 or may wish to participate in our programme before making a commitment to boarding.

The Orientation Day offers the boys an opportunity to sleepover and experience boarding first hand whilst parents join the Residential Life staff for an 'Introduction to Boarding' with insightful guest speakers offering helpful tips for transitioning into boarding as a family.

During the boy's overnight stay, they have the opportunity to meet new friends that are currently in boarding and other new boys that will also be commencing boarding in the following years. Our Residential Mentors will co-ordinate activities for the boys to get to know each other and form new friendships whilst they spend time utilising the College's sporting and recreational facilities including our swimming pool, gymnasium and playing fields.
